Acer Reorgs to Meet Crisis

Less than three weeks afterwards Acer's CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci quit in a disagreement with the board over what to do about the company's flagging PC business, it has named Jim Wong president and as well made him responsible for developing the mobile devices Acer needs to ward off Apple's cannibal iPads.

The effort will be housed in a new Touch Business Group dedicated to smartphones and tablets. Its existing smartphone operation will be melded into the new unit.

The Taiwan company has as well got itself a new Chief Marketing Office EMEA president Walter Deppeler, responsible for its brand position and marketing strategy; a new Chief Innovation Office, responsible for mid- to long-term planning and integration of technologies; and a new Operation Analysis Office to study and analyze the company's business models and financial affairs.
