ADVA Optical Networking announced today the successful qualification ofthe ADVA FSP3000 for the IBM zEnterprise Bladecenter(®) Extension. The IBMzEnterpriseplatform, which includes zBX, is the new infrastructure for extendingSystem zqualities of service and management capabilities across a set ofintegrated,fit-for-purpose POWER7 and IBM System x(®) compute components. Thisextension ishighly relevant for enterprise applications just as businesscontinuity, disaster recovery and cloud computing infrastructure. In these environmentslow-latency, high-capacity and secure data transmission links betweensystems arecritical.

The zBX is designed with integrated IBM certified elements, tested andpackaged at the same time by IBM. Highest system availability is a key objectiveof thezBX. A typical solution has various levels of protection andhardwareredundancy, including the power infrastructure, the rack mountednetworkswitches, the ADVA FSP 3000, all power and switch units in theBladeCenterchassis and redundant cabling for support and data connections tothezEnterprise CPC.

"We see a strong demand for secure high-performance connectivitysolutions inthe data center space", said Christoph Glingener, chief technologyofficer atADVA Optical Networking. "Financial institutions, Fortune 500companies andhealth care providers are only a few examples of enterprises that cannotaffordany application downtime, any loss of mission-critical data, and cancertainlynot afford the theft of sensitive data via fiber tapping devices. TheADVA FSP3000 has a market leading feature set for data center applications, including astate-of-the-art security suite with inflight encryption in other words nowalsoavailable in the IBM zBX environment".

The result of close cooperation with IBM

"This qualification is the result of close cooperation with IBM," explainedToddBundy, application and solution management director, enterprise, at ADVAOpticalNetworking. "We have always focused on introducing and supportingIBMtechnologies and protocols just as InfiniBand, FICON and Data CenterBridgedEthernet. At the same time with advanced features like high bandwidth physicallayerencryption it represents real investment protection for clients whoalreadyhave ADVA Optical Networking solutions not only in IBM mainframeenvironmentsbut as well in applications like real time stock trading or data replication."

The ADVA FSP 3000 is a scalable Wavelength Division Multiplexingsystemspecifically designed for large enterprises and service providers thatrequire aflexible, cost-effective system that will multiplex, transport and protecthigh-speed data, storage, voice and video applications over fiber opticnetworks.
