AITI Advises Consumers To Buy Products From Licenced Dealers

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Authority for Info-Communications Innovation Industry of Brunei Darussalam has stressed the importance of type approving telecommunications and buying products from licensed dealers.

AITI issues dealer licenses to facilitate and regulate the sale and import of telecommunications and/or radio communication equipment.

There are more than 300 active dealers registered with AITI who are licenced to import and sell telecommunications products.

Examples of equipments that require type approval are laptops with WIFI and Bluetooth capabilities, mobile phones, wireless access modem and other Short Range Devices just as Bluetooth headsets and accessories, radio-frequency identification device, key-less entry devices, etc.

For personal type approval, AITI has exempted the fee of up to two units for mobile phones and will only charge each subsequent units.

For level one, the application fee for fax, telephone system, PABX/ KTS, ADSL Modem, Audio and Video Conference, Short Range Devices and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is $100.

The application fee for cordless telephone system

The application fee for cordless telephone system, amateur radio, satellite phone, marine radio, satellite receiver and the Kristal-Astro decoder is $250.

Type approval of a mobile phone and standard telephone will not be charged up to two units. Subsequent units will be charged at $50 each.

The first unit is charged at $50

Type approval of the first unit is charged at $50 and $300 for subsequent units of the same item for satellite phones, cordless telephone sets, amateur radio sets and radio modem.

Type approval of the first five units is charged at $50 and $300 each for subsequent units of the same item for modem, PABX, marine radio, remote control TX for car.

Consumers will be assured that such telecommunications equipment are viewed as safe and operable by affixing the labels.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
