Amazon Resolves Cloud Issues

After some technical difficulties hampered cloud-computing services offered by Amazon.com last week, issues that sparked concern over how many clients would opt to depend on services provided by computers in remote locations, the company says many of those issues are now resolved, nevertheless the shares are after all fractionally lower.

The Cloud Computing Stocks Index

News that Amazon has fixed its cloud-related glitches appears to be helping the Cloud Computing Stocks Index, which is higher by 0.7%. Technical problems struck Amazon's Web services business last week, forcing Web sites run by the company's clients to either crash or run in sluggish fashion, according to the Wall Street Journal. The technical problems started on Thursday and lasted through the weekend, although Washington-based Amazon said late Sunday night that access to most of the Web sites had been restored.

Cloud-computing services could account for up to $500 million in revenue this year for Amazon and the company has an array of then-known clients for its cloud services, including Pfizer and Netflix, the New York Times reported. Tech start-ups Foursquare, Quora and Reddit were among the firms that experienced problems due to Amazon's cloud issues, the Journal noted. Amazon said it is investigating what caused the issues.

The Index higher with a 5% gain during Acme Packet

Aruba Networks is leading the Index higher with a 5% gain during Acme Packet and NetApp are up 2% and 3%. VMware is higher by 1% during Riverbed Innovation is off 2%.
