Appia Notes Widespread Application of Telepresence

Appia Communications, a provider of managed communication and network services, notes that though the most common use of video communication continues to be telepresence, this research is taking hold in a range of other applications.

Some of Appia’s clients were not satisfied by using the public Internet as it does not deliver the video quality they required. To address the needs of these clients, Appia is offering MPLS networking and claims that it ensures video quality along with business VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and general Internet use.

"The ability to use AVC in so many different ways shows the promise of video communication. It is a function of the low cost of AVC and the availability of more plentiful bandwidth," added von Schlegell.

Provider of managed communication

Appia Communications is a provider of managed communication and network services, with a focus on small to midsize companies and organizations. Its solutions help clients minimize capital investments, reduce costs, enhance employee productivity, improve customer care, and compete more effectively against much larger enterprises.

The company was in news this August, for announcing that its Appia Video Communicator product is interoperable with H.323 devices. This product allows its clients to bring any Internet-connected H.323 video conferencing node into an AVC session.
