Ask PC Pro: your questions answered

PUMPER ASKED: I am getting to the point where I will shortly need to migrate all the content on my Desire to my Desire HD. What is the best way of doing it? Most of my data save the address book is saved to SD storage but what of all those Market Apps? Will the new phone know to bring across those apps once I log in with my Google account?

Reviews editor, Jonathan Bray, replies: This is a bit of a thorny issue with Android, Pumper. At the moment Google only keeps a record of apps you've paid for. Once you've registered your new phone, all you do is fire up the Market app and go to the downloads section â€" you should be able to download any app you've previously paid for with impunity (you can also see a list of these in your Google checkout account).

JONATHON MOORE ASKED: I'm trying to get my phone system to link to our Exchange 2010 server so that I can use OVA. I've used the correct IP address and port 5060 but just can't get Exchange to accept the connection. Have you seen anything like this before?

Let's go back to first principles. Make sure it's not your phone system. Take the 3CX version on the current PC Pro cover disc, and see if you can get that to talk to Exchange Server. If so, then at least you know the Exchange Server is OK and actually working for this. It will take ten minutes to set up and try with either a spare VoIP phone or their software phone client.

I would like to get an eBook reader, but am held back by fear and confusion over DRM. Risking loosing or breaking a £100 device is acceptable, but what about the rights to any books I have purchased on the device? Those could easily be worth many times the value of the reader. What happens to DRM rights if (a) the reader is stolen; (b) the reader fails and has to be replaced; (c) a better device comes along and I just want to upgrade; (d) the company selling the rights and/or the reader goes out of business or just decides to quit this market? With a paper book I am only risking one book at a time out in the wild world, but with eBooks it seems like I could be risking my entire library!

Can we have articles covering proffessional PC issues. Like managing roll outs, user communication, customer service and service management. I'm not saying that it should be a regular feature or lots of features in this section but it would be intresting every once in a while to look at common issues in the managment of PC's in an enterprise environment rather than concentrating on the technology.

In our office, max 30 users share 5M ADSL line for internet. It is used for surfing, ebanking and some vpn connection. I find it slow. But in other offices more than 100 users share same connection. do you think it is worth to increase ADSL speed for 30 users? will users feel the difference?

I currently use Kaspersky Internet Security on our two home desktop PCs and also on our laptop. I also look after the laptop of a local club, which has MSE. Where does the combination of Windows 7 firewall and MSE stand, compared to a "full" Internet Security package such as KIS? Is it just as good if I don't need family controls, etc?

Hi, are you planning a mobile version of PCPro? I mostly read it on my smartphone but your standard pages are very data hungry - ie over 1.2MB in size typically. Thanks.
