Astrophysicists create video simulation of Milky Way's formation
After that formation, the galaxy grows more and accumulates more gases and dwarf galaxies inside of it. The video simulation was calculated in 8 months at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center at Manno, Switzerland. A personal computer would have taken nearly 600 years
Simulated model of the Milky Way formation
It took twenty years for astrophysicists to produce such a simulated model of the Milky Way formation. This is the first successful attempt. Astronomers and astrophysicists on separate continents with their two super computers, the Cray XT5 "Monte Rosa" at Zurich's Swiss National Computing Center and the NASA Advanced Supercomputer Division's "Pleiades," completed the task by building a mathematical model.
