Bond measure could help meet PVUSD facility needs
Many of our schools date back to the 1920s, 1930s and 1960s, and they're reaching the end of their "shelf life." Aptos Junior High, to illustrate, could use a cafeteria. Currently students eat outside in good weather and in the gym while the winter. A new cafeteria and multi-purpose room would serve the school then. We could as well use updated bathrooms, new windows and more than a few new roofs throughout the district.
The district is as well in need of technological improvements. There's been a revolution in what's called instructional innovation, cutting edge devices that are taking classroom instruction into the 21st century. Just in case to new wiring for high-speed Internet and cloud computing research, we're looking at swapping some textbooks for tablet computers loaded with all the materials students need. With these devices, students could take quizzes and provide teachers with real time feedback that could be displayed on smart boards right in the classroom. Our district is in fact meeting with representatives from Cisco Systems to explore what kind of research could best serve our students and teachers.
The community
While we get ready to poll the community, the district is completing a robust facilities master plan that will look at district building needs over the then and there 10 years. The plan will look at our facility, research and program needs over the then and there decade.
