Bonded DSL from Fusion Broadband can quadruple Internet speed

While a national rollout of the NBN may be on its way, it isn't likely to happen for a number of years, leaving many businesses with a long wait for a faster broadband service.

The in the meantime

In the in the meantime, Fusion Broadband has introduced a new and unequalled broadband bonding research for businesses that will bridge the gap between slower xDSL based connections and what the future promises with the NBN.

Key in a class by itself features of this bonding research are that it can work with numerous and different carriers, with up to six connections able to be bonded, and it can be deployed in nearly any location throughout Australia where there are current business class xDSL services - without any involvement from the carriers.

Provided by local company Fusion Broadband and based on research developed by Canadian-based Rocket Networks, IP Broadband Bonding is able to join multiple broadband connections at the same time, creating one connection from up to six xDSL connections. The bonded connection in most cases will equal the total sum of the services connected in both up and downlink directions.

For example, an installation in one Melbourne business showed it had a download speed of 13Mbps on its ADSL2+ Annex M connection. Following the addition of an ADSL2+ line and installation of broadband bonding provided by Fusion Broadband, the download speed increased to 27Mbps and an upload speed in excess of 2.4Mbps was achieved.

Businesses can increase their broadband speed as simply as adding another service. A key feature of the solution is that it uses cost effective DSL services to create faster and more reliable broadband connections. Should any of the connected services fail there is no interruption to the overall service as long as one line remains active.

Jason Maude, managing director of Fusion Broadband, said that with the increasing dependency on virtualized applications and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone systems, the speed and reliability of Internet connections is becoming the Achilles heel of many businesses.

"Ethernet over copper is a wonderful research with tremendous speed options now once you get out of the metro areas the costs sky rocket and availability is scarce. SHDSL suffers a similar fate with lack of availability and usually slower download speeds. There is as well a big step in cost between ADSL services and SHDSL or Ethernet. Fusion Broadband's bonding solution means businesses that either cannot justify the cost or are unable to get Ethernet or SHDSL connections nevertheless have a viable alternative for faster broadband connections."

Six connections can be 'bonded' at the same time Fusion Broadband's bonding solution can solve this right away by simply bonding up to six broadband connections at the same time. The upload and download speeds are reflected by the sum of the connected services. Bonded connections can be derived from the same ISP/carrier or a mixture, providing increased insurance as the connection uptime is shared across multiple carriers.

A unequalled aspect of the service is that clients can use this innovation on their existing broadband connections. Unlike other Bonded DSL solutions, clients can retain their service agreements with their current providers, buy more lines from them or diversify their providers. The only requirement is that the lines are quality, stable business class connections with static IP addresses.

Bonding is particularly attractive to SMEs who may have their Internet with one carrier and spare copper line used for their fax. By putting an additional ADSL service over the fax line and using Fusion Broadband's bonding service, organisations can get the benefit of the two lines combined. This delivers close to a 100 per cent improvement in up and downlink speeds with the added benefit of seamless failover between the services. "For a company with a typical ADSL service getting a faster broadband service is either a massive cost in new research - if it is available in their area -or they have to move. With our bonding service, faster connections can be deployed anywhere. Clearly, there needs to be some available ports in the local exchange now by having a number of carriers to choose from, the issue is less of a problem," Mr Maude said.

"Deciding what to do to improve connections is a real challenge for businesses, especially with the NBN providing fibre to all premises. Most would be very reluctant to spend thousands on installing a private Ethernet or fibre lines when in a few years the government will do it for free. Fusion Broadband's bonding solution provides a very easy and cost effective alternative until the NBN fibre turns up.

"It means that businesses can nevertheless run virtualized applications, perform offline backups and provide more enhanced services within their business. Just because a business is not in a metro or so then serviced area doesn't mean they have to suffer from slow connections."

Fusion Broadband can combine similar or different types of access technologies including ADSL, ADSL2+ and its variants, SHDSL, BDSL, Ethernet and some wireless technologies.

For more demanding business needs, configurations of potentially up to six connections can be bonded, delivering exceptional network speed. But, the company expects the major demand to be 2-4 connections.

The system is in place businesses can scale up

Once the system is in place businesses can scale up and down their Internet connection as they can easily be added or removed as an organisation's needs change.

Another unequalled feature of Fusion Broadband's research is that service availability is not dependent on available ports in the local DSLAM being physically then and there to each other; multiple ports anywhere in the exchange can be bonded.

Minimum set up fee of $450

Bonded services are priced at $75 per month for each bonded connection with a minimum set up fee of $450. Alternatively, businesses can opt for a monthly charge of $85 per month with a significantly reduced set up fee. For a 24 month contract, this monthly cost is reduced to $80 per month. All prices are exclusive of GST.

Fusion Broadband was established in 2009 to provide businesses with an easy, affordable high speed broadband service in other words ISP independent and reliable. With decades of experience in the telecommunications industry and some of the best partners in the world, its solutions have been developed with simplicity and performance in mind. It's primary focus is to provide broadband bonding solutions for most broadband technologies just as ADSL, ASL2+ and its variants, SHDSL, BDSL, Ethernet and some wireless technologies. Whilst IP based bonding is relativity new in Australia, Fusion Broadband's innovation is in fact in its fourth generation and used throughout the world. Bonding connections gives faster more reliable business broadband. Fusion Broadband's systems employ sophisticated packet-based load balancing algorithms that are flexible enough to compliment even the most critical network environments.

The true benefit of this packet-based bonding solution is that users achieve the added benefit of a total sum of the connected services in both directions, not just a multiple of the slowest connected line which many alternatives can only offer. To boot, up to six different lines can be bonded at the same time. Fusion Broadband's bonding systems are build on a network of aggregation servers strategically located within the major telecommunication hubs through Australia. Every aspect of its network runs on an N+1 structure for enhanced reliability and stability.
