
Business and Consumer IP Phone Shipments to Exceed 40 Million in 2015
With the worldwide sales of IP phones picking up, it’s safe to say that there is a movement gravitating toward IP telephony systems. Corded IP phones remain the standard, and will continue to dominate the enterprise IP phone market throughout the business market.
A New In-Stat innovation forecasts suggest that IP phone shipments, for business and consumer, will exceed 40 million units in 2015.
Discussing the growing influence of IP phones in the business market, Norm Bogen, VP of Digital Entertainment said, "IP phones are enabling businesses and consumers to use their telephone system for more advanced communications."
The enterprise space
"These applications are more obviously understood in the enterprise space, where IP-based communication is replacing TDM networks at a steady pace. On the consumer side, the market for Wi-Fi phones has not materialized. Instead, DECT phones dominate the consumer IP phone market," he added.
Cisco and Avaya are leading the market for enterprise IP phones. Among other major competitors are Aastra, Alcatel-Lucent, LG, Mitel, NEC, Polycom, ShoreTel, and Siemens.
Business Wi-Fi/Cellular Phone Shipments grew by near 40% in 2010 over 2009. Among the leading handset OEMs in the dual-mode segment, HTC saw the biggest share gain.
