Chevron Extends Relationship with Hughes for New Broadband Network

Hughes Network Systems, LLC, a provider of managed network solutions and broadband satellite networks and services, is powering new Chevron franchise broadband network.

With this, Chevron (News - Alert) gas and convenience store owners can get faster broadband performance, better data security, and enhanced IP applications to help attract customers and simplify store operations, according to a press release.

Hughes (News - Alert) has been offering secure credit card transactions to Chevron over a Hughes Very Small Aperture Terminal “VSAT” network for more than 20 years. Beginning July 2010, Chevron named Hughes as the company’s certified provider of secure managed broadband services for its marketer and retailer stations nationwide.

As part of Chevron's mission to help marketers and retailers succeed in the extremely competitive retail petroleum market, the new broadband offering provides them access to the best available technology.

Apart from offering Chevron's marketers and retailers with new options for fast and secure broadband connectivity, the new broadband offering also offers latest IP services and the toughest security safeguards.

The new connectivity options also incorporate broadband DSL, cable, 3G wireless and satellite service. The higher bandwidth of broadband services will facilitate stations to streamline operations with enhanced IP-based services such as video surveillance, tank and temperature monitoring, inventory scanners, and digital signage.

The new broadband network

Hughes will not only look in to installation of the new broadband network but will also provide proactive monitoring and technical support for Chevron.

Company officials with Chevron said that store owners with existing VSAT-based connectivity can enhance their operations with new web-based services. The provider handling both POS and broadband connectivity of Chevron is same.

"We are working with Hughes for broadband services to increase our retail operators' long-term opportunities for success," said Ken Morse, sales automation coordinator at Chevron. "They now can have direct access to their own suite of applications while meeting stringent PCI security requirements. Chevron-certified network services from Hughes deliver a worry-free solution for our retailers' commerce and connectivity needs -- all from a single vendor."

Hughes’ HughesNet encapsulates all broadband solutions and managed services from Hughes. Its broadband satellite products are based on global standards approved by the TIA (News - Alert), ETSI and ITU standards organizations, such as IPoS/DVB-S2, RSM-A and GMR-1.
