Cloud computing could create 20
According to a report released by Microsoft in Ireland today, the company believes that cloud based computing could end up creating around 8,600 jobs in the country by the end of 2014.
The report, mentioned on Ireland Insider, states that cloud computing could be a potential cash cow for the country, bringing in around €9.5bn per year by 2014. Cloud computing is where services and storage are provided over the Internet, and Microsoft has stated numerous times over the past year that it will change the way business is done over the internet, as so then as in the public sector.
The way that the internet did
"Cloud computing will revolutionize innovation the way that the internet did," Microsoft Ireland's managing director Paul Rellis said.
Money isn’t the only selling point to cloud computing in Ireland. If you take the results of the report to heart, it could create around 20,000 vital jobs to Irish workers in a country that has suffered badly since the crisis in the banking system over the past couple of years. Though 8,600 jobs would be created by the companies who push cloud computing, another 11,000 jobs are expected to be created by 2,000 new small and medium enterprises who will save money in infrastructure costs.
wat ? isn't part of cloud computings purpose to cut the need for it staff and resources... which in reality would be counter productive to "creating jobs" that aren't even there in the first place in any case....
worked with and visited about a dozen established datacenters here and in aussie ... as a rule most maintenance, support, sales, admin etc in most cases takes 2-3 people most i've seen is 5 working at any time in a data center and that was cause their network was screwing up and was new datacenter and had 2 extra engineers in for a few weeks to help sort it out. It only takes one person to fill a rack and plug it all in and make sure it's online, rest is done remotely....at times even install is done by the hardware owner.
This is talking physical servers... virtual ones have even less involvement in and they are foundation of 'cloud computing'. Managing them only requires a single sys admin so say a company who but has a whole I.T staff managing whole parts of a network would but require one man... is that as a matter of fact job creation ?
The managing resources could be anywhere in the world
one thing about cloud computing is that the managing resources could be anywhere in the world. so the requirement for the local resources will decrease. Jobs will be moved to low cost locations as everyone would expect. if it could cut cost significantly, at the time cloud computing will be attrative to business owners now not employees.
It has varied from each article however 90% say 8000 odd from cloud computing, 11000 from the new businesses it will help create
