The country's flood crisis is pushing cloud adoption
The country's flood crisis is pushing cloud adoption, especially among the workforce, thanks to the open-source computing platform that supports mobile flexible work, said Monsinee Keeratikrainon, country manager of Frost & Sullivan Thailand.
Cloud computing services have proven to be cost-effective and capable. They allow users to access IT resources through a utility model, delivering IT as a service to end users.
The Thai cloud computing market to 1
Dr Monsinee said Frost & Sullivan's estimate of growth in the Thai cloud computing market to 1.5 billion baht by 2012 is up from 1 billion this year.
Dr Monsinee said Thailand ranks fourth in Asean for growth rates in cloud computing, behind Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
She cited security and privacy concerns, the quality of network infrastructure, and users' attitude and readiness as key barriers to cloud adoption in the kingdom.
The manufacturing sector is expected to become a key adopter of cloud services. "The floods could be a wake-up call for companies to pay attention to their network protection and improve IT efficiency," said Dr Monsinee.
