ECN acquisition to complement Nashua product offering

Electrical engineering and electronics group Reunert announced on Monday that it would acquire telecommunications company ECN Telecommunications to add converged voice and data capabilities to its Nashua Mobile subsidiary.

The acquisition

Reunert CEO Nick Wentzel said that the acquisition would complement Nashua’s product offering and assist the group in its aim to offer total solutions comprising office automation, telecommunication and information innovation services to clients.

"With the migration from least-cost routing to VoIP [Voice over Internet Protocol] this addition positions us perfectly to capitalise on the possibility to manage the migration and continue to reduce communication costs for our clients," said Nashua Mobile CEO Andy Baker.

Engineering News Online reported previously that Nashua Mobile was hoping to convert about 75% of its existing least-cost routing customer base to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), which could see its earnings from voice increase by about 5% to 10% over time.

Although the cost of calls on VoIP are expected to be cheaper for the customer, Nashua Mobile could increase earnings, as in-bound calls were nevertheless chargeable over VoIP, and not only out-bound calls.

The acquisition

ECN CEO John Holdsworth hoped that the acquisition would explore the different opportunities to share knowledge and leverage expertise across the two businesses.
