Emerson Network Power Introduces NetSure ITM DC UPS System
Emerson Network Power introduced the NetSureT™ ITM uninterruptible power supply system – which the company says is the industry’s first row-based, integrated dc UPS system specifically designed for the data center market.
The NetSure ITM is described as a scalable
The NetSure ITM is described as a scalable and highly efficient 48V direct current output power system that includes battery backup and branch distribution for robust power protection in a compact footprint. Emerson Network Power states that it has decades of experience providing dc power systems for telecommunications networks. Utilizing the same power conversion technology, the NetSure ITM is simple to deploy, operate and provides reduced total cost of ownership for data center applications.
"The data center is becoming an increasingly complex environment, and every critical sub-system must be evaluated for its contribution to overall site performance within many difficult constraints," said Peter Panfil, Vice President and General Manager, the Liebert power business of Emerson Network Power. "Today’s IT landscape puts a focus on infrastructure flexibility, scalability and energy efficiency while maintaining the highest levels of availability. The NetSure ITM offers an ideal solution to these complex challenges."
The telecommunications industry for years
Emerson Network Power’s NetSure dc power systems have provided best-in-class solutions for the telecommunications industry for years. The NetSure ITM leverages that experience and technology to extend the NetSure brand to the data center. DC power has been a subject of interest in the data center market for years as a way to eliminate power conversions and accompanying energy losses. Implementing a dc architecture reduces the number of overall power chain components, conversion stages and distribution breakers and can provide an alternative to ac architecture. This simplicity increases efficiency and reduces potential points of failure. Power conversion is provided by field-replaceable, hot-swappable power conversion units that allow for rapid replacement without critical bus disruption.
Applications that combine computing and networking such as voice over internet protocol and power over Ethernet are a good fit for dc UPS power protection. In most applications, the ideal point for power conversion and energy storage is as close as possible to the load. A row-based, 48Vdc UPS, such as the NetSure ITM, combined with the availability of 48Vdc-powered IT equipment from major manufacturers, makes dc power another option for data centers seeking to optimize power efficiency, reliability and scalability for the lowest total cost.
