Expand Networks' Accelerator Appliances Outperform Competition

Expand Networks, in recent lab tests, found that its accelerator appliances running the COMPASS Accelerator Operating System consistently and reliably sent more data, compared with competing products, across high-latency, low-bandwidth satellite connections. Compensating for satellite transmission delays, the appliances increase effective bandwidth and throughput during maximizing network efficiency.

The test environment consisted of six Cisco-

The test environment consisted of six Cisco- and Juniper-routed Fast Ethernet subnetworks that were linked by means of real and simulated satellite links with bandwidth settings of 64 Kbps and 1.544 Mbps. In the simulations of satellite-based links, 650 ms latency was injected to represent a single satellite hop. Each device’s out-of-the-box configuration options were used, with all optimizations enabled.

The tests evaluated the accelerators for fast performance, support for all protocols — including streaming video, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), routing table updates, and music-sharing protocols — ease of use, scalability, good documentation, and ease of installation.

The test showed that the Expand Networks Accelerator 4900 series appliances were better at optimizing WAN links of all speeds, and resulted in lower latencies for the packets crossing those links, as so then as reducing jitter. The 4900 series can reduce application response times, reduce costs, and accelerate traffic. Just in case, they are reliable, scalable, and easy to install and use.
