Facebook, Google Compete for Skype's Attention
If the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) giant allies with Google, it will gain solid backing from a deep-pocketed protector, during Google will gain a vast improvement over its current chat client. Skype is doing fine spontaneously, raising over $860 million in 2010, nevertheless with an ally like Google, the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) company could in short go public with a bang. This would eclipse others recent IPOs like LinkedIn's, an important boost for Skype as more and more tech companies flood the market.
If Skype hooks up with Facebook, it will inherit the social network's millions of users and increase the flow of calls across its network. Skype would as well reportedly earn between $3 to 4 billion if Facebook decided to bid for its loyalty. And the transition would be easy, as Skype users can already call their Facebook friends from the Skype desktop application; any partnership would likely make voice and video calls possible from inside Facebook as then.
Facebook would be happy to buy Skype, sources say, as CEO Mark Zuckerburg is rumored to be in talks about this opportunity with the VoIP company. Facebook seems interested in extending its reach to voice and video calls, as doing so would draw people to spend furthermore time chatting to each other on the company's site. Not to mention that Facebook would likely reel in moreover revenue afterwards acquiring or partnering with Skype.
