FaceTime lands on the Mac

Unveiled last night during Apple’s “Back to the Mac” event, the new feature utilises your Mac’s address book and built-in camera and mic to allow you to call pals on other Macs, iPhones or iPods.

The first time

“FaceTime makes video calling to or from mobile devices easy for the first time,” said Steve Jobs, a comment which is bound to provoke reaction from VoIP makers.

He added, “We’ve sold more than 19 million FaceTime-ready iPhone 4 and iPod touch devices in the past four months, and now those users can make FaceTime calls with tens of millions of Mac users.”
