GENBAND and iBasis Win 2010 Global Telecoms Business Award for IP Service Innovation
GENBAND, a leading developer of next-generation networking solutions and services, and iBasis, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal KPN N.V., the national carrier of the Netherlands, have won the 2010 Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Award for IP Service Innovation. The award was presented at the recent GTB Innovation Awards ceremony that took place in London.
Now in its fourth year, the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award is designed to honor innovative projects involving telecoms operators and service providers around the world. GENBAND and iBasis received the award for their recent wholesale VoIP initiative that provides communications services to fixed and mobile carriers, enterprises and consumers across Europe. GENBAND’s advanced Session Border Control (SBC) functionality has been deployed throughout iBasis’ network to provide sophisticated session border control, session switching, and session management intelligence for the carrier's mobile-intensive direct and premium offerings.
“This award is a reflection of GENBAND’s success in creating innovative solutions that improve service provider competitive advantage and profitability while at the same time providing advanced voice and IP services to end users,” said Mehmet Balos, Chief Marketing Officer at GENBAND. “We are very pleased to accept this award from GTB as a result of our success and long-standing partnership with iBasis, one of the industry’s true pioneers of VoIP.”
“As part of our commitment to IP innovation, we’re continually evaluating technologies to determine what solutions best enable us to meet the evolving business and communications requirements of our carrier customers,” said Ajay Joseph, Chief Technology Officer, iBasis. “GENBAND has played a key role in enhancing our VoIP leadership position and has given us significant competitive edge by enabling us to efficiently match suppliers and buyers, and offer secure interconnection solutions to the growing Voice over Broadband (VoBB) market. We’re grateful that Global Telecoms Business has chosen to honor our efforts.”
iBasis leveraged GENBAND’s solution to interconnect directly and efficiently with VoIP operators, to localize regional VoIP traffic flows and to optimize bandwidth usage. This helped to simplify network peering and provide carrier-class quality metrics and operational visibility. GENBAND’s session and media routing capabilities help provide superior service quality. GENBAND’s solution also provides inter-domain masking security and CDR generation/aggregation and path optimization from source to destination. With GENBAND’s innovative SBC, iBasis can now flow calls smoothly over its network while reducing latency, jitter, post-dial delay and packet loss. In addition, GENBAND is helping to expand the iBasis’ interconnect services and provide an Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) offering which provides security, managed quality of service, and cascaded billing over a global MPLS backbone.
