Genband snaps up Cedar Point Communications

IP infrastructure vendor Genband announced this morning that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cedar Point Communications.

By acquiring Cedar Point, Genband increased its presence in cable's VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) market with the addition of Cedar Point's IP switching offerings to its product portfolio.

In addition to its VoIP Safari C3 switch platform for cable, Cedar Point as well serves CLECs, wireless operators and universities.

Last year, Genband bought most of the assets of the Nortel Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions Business. That acquisition combined Genband's media, session and security gateways with Nortel's softswitches, media gateways and application platforms.

At last year's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Genband announced Suddenlink had deployed its C20 Converged Softswitch as part of the cable operator's business continuity and disaster recovery preparedness plan.
