Gingerbread arrives on Google's campus
Some of the rumored new features in Android 2.3 is a full Google Voice VoIP client, native OS video conferencing to desktop Google Talk and most importantly, a tightened up interface that will better compete with iPhone and Windows Mobile 7. Interface improvements are rumored to include a cleaner and greener set of icons and consistency throughout the OS. A pickup of UI guru, Mattias Duarte earlier this year should help in that regard.
The next month
Even if Gingerbread is released in the next month, it is unlikely that many, if any at all of the carriers will update their phones in time for Christmas. Still though, for those with high end Android phones, the news is exciting.
