
Google Scraps Desktop VoiP App; Online Petitions Start
Google was allegedly testing Google Voice Desktop as of April of this year. According to TechCrunch, the company has since scrapped the product in favor of building out more features for its Web services, "because Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin don't want Google to be in the business of creating software outside of the browser," writes Michael Arrington.

Dissatisfied fans of desktop-based calling have since started an online petition, reports Fortune's Seth Weintraub, in an effort to convince Google to resume progress on the desktop VoiP app. Given its complete (and useful) integration with the Google Voice service, as evidenced by the video below, it's easy to see why there's such a clamor from the crowd:
