Google sets sights on Amazon with new digital bookstore
Details of the new digital bookstore, dubbed Google Editions, emerged in May when the Journal reported that the search giant was readying plans to open for business in the summer. But the project was hit by delays, and now Google is pushing forward despite the fact that it will have missed much of the 2010 holiday shopping season.
The report goes on to say that Google's lack of an e-book reading device actually could help it carve out territory in the market. It also highlights a program in which Web site operators will be able to share revenue with Google by recommending titles on Google Editions.
