Google Voice for iPhone Released, But No VoIP
There is finally a Google Voice application for the iPhone, which you can download and install on your Apple machine from the Apple App Store. The application has nothing VoIP in it, i.e. it does not allow you to make VoIP (hence free or cheap) calls whether or not you are connected to a Wi-Fi or 3G network. It only allows you to use your Google Voice number to have the phone ring and answer. Whenever you use the app and your Google Voice number to make a call, the application uses your cellular minutes and transfers the call to a third number. Also, the learning curve for using this isn't flat.
While not allowing you to use VoIP and save money, the application does bring some interesting features, like hiding the Google Voice number, voicemail management, contacts management, and some other stuff. Also note that the app will work only for iPhones running version 3.0 or later of the OS. There is no Google Voice app yet for iPod users. As a matter of example, Skype for iPhone does better, doesn't it?
