Google will offer domestic in-flight passengers free Wi-Fi for holidays
Google expects that approximately 15 million holiday travelers will benefit from the free Wi-Fi experience on more than 700 domestic flights, reports PC World. AirTran, Delta and Virgin America have recently added Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi to their domestic fleets, which will power Internet access for the Google freebie.
An average 24-hour pass for Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi costs $11 to $12.95, says PC World. So, not only will it save some passengers money, it will be an opportunity for those who have never used in-flight Wi-Fi to give it a try. Using in-flight Wi-Fi, passengers can use laptops just as they would on the ground, with similar connection speeds, according to Gogo. But, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are not allowed (Skype or Google Talk, for example) because of Federal Communications Commission regulations. Additionally, video streaming full-length television episodes or movies is not supported.
