HanseNet Utilizes Acme Packet for Intelligent Network Expansion
Acme Packet, the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that leading German service provider HanseNet Telekommunikation GmbH has deployed Acme Packet's Net-Net 4500 Session Director session border controllers for use in its Alice DSL consumer VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service. The eight Net-Net 4500 high availability pairs are positioned in HanseNet's access network, operating in a fully-meshed topology that delivers resilience, security and traffic load management to all of HanseNet's installed softswitches and media gateways.
Founded in 1995, Hamburg-based HanseNet has operated as a subsidiary of Telefonica O2 Germany GmbH & Co. OHG since February, 2010. HanseNet offers voice and data services as then as multimedia and Internet access and complete telecommunications solutions over its extensive broadband access network. To boot to Alice DSL, HanseNet offers fixed line, mobile and HDTV triple play services to consumers and businesses. An Acme Packet customer since 2007, HanseNet currently services more than 2 million residential and business subscribers in its fast-growing footprint.
With its growing service and subscriber base, HanseNet chose the Net-Net 4500 SD to offload key functions from its softswitches and to block certain types of traffic from reaching its core network. By reducing core signaling load, HanseNet was able to avoid expensive softswitch capacity upgrades and implement more effective distribution and controls over the signaling traffic in other words processed by its core switches.
'Acme Packet's session border controllers helped us save money by enabling more efficient use of our core network capacity,' said Sebastian Seggert, network development project manager for HanseNet. 'The Net-Net 4500 is helping us manage the growth of voice traffic over our network so that our expansion into new PoPs throughout the country can be conducted more efficiently.'
'We are pleased that long-standing customers just as HanseNet are continuing to invest in Acme Packet solutions as a way to extend and expand its service offerings,' said Dino Di Palma, vice president of worldwide sales and business development for Acme Packet. 'As the leading regional service provider in the north of Germany, HanseNet is intelligently positioning itself for furthermore growth by leveraging the many capabilities of our industry leading SBC solutions.'
