How to Port a Number from Metro PCS to Google Voice
You can transfer your number to a provider that supports that VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) porting. This does not mean that you must commit yourself to a two year contract. I called a few cell phone providers to see if a number could be ported with a prepaid phone.
The best option to use
Boost Mobile is the best option to use. Boost Mobile currently has a phone that costs $29.95 and your number can be ported in as few as 3-4 business days. It is important to allow enough time for the new cell phone provider to complete the port so that you will not lose your phone number and you will however be able to reuse your Metro phone or sell it.
Once the porting has been completed, you can log on to Google Voice and port your number. Google does charge $20.00 to port your number from your cell phone provider.
Hopefully, Metro PCS will in the near future allow its customer to port numbers to VOIP. Until at the time, this is the proven method to complete the process.
