TRENTON â" Senator Raymond J. Lesniak, the sponsor of Internet gaming and wagering in the New Jersey Legislature, will give the opening remarks via teleconference to the 9th annual European iGaming Congress and Exposition in Copenhagen, Denmark tomorrow regarding New Jersey's efforts to implement intrastate and international online gaming.
Leading role in the country
"New Jersey is well-positioned to take a leading role in the country and around the world in regards to promoting online wagering and Internet betting," said Senator Lesniak, D-Union. "The eyes of the world are on the Garden State as we lay the groundwork for one of the biggest and potentially most lucrative Internet gaming operations around the globe. It's time to get to work, and enable New Jersey to become a global innovator in gaming and wagering."
The annual European iGaming Congress and Exposition (EiG) is one of the largest gaming summits in the entire world, drawing more than 100 gaming CEOs and more than 1,500 attendees to Copenhagen for three days of discussion regarding online wagering and Internet betting. Senator Lesniak's comments to the Congress come at a time when New Jersey is on the cusp of implementing intrastate Internet wagering. Senator Lesniak said that while New Jersey is legally capable of allowing online wagering within its borders and outside of the country, the federal government has banned interstate online wagering across State lines within the United States.
