Microsoft Closes Deal with Skype
Skype is now an official business division within Microsoft, and the Redmond software giant is eager to get started integrating the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service across a range of Microsoft products, ultimately broadening Skype's reach.
The same time the best of Microsoft
"By bringing at the same time the best of Microsoft and the best of Skype, we are committed to empowering consumers and businesses around the globe to connect in new ways," said Skype CEO Tony Bates, who right away assumes the title of president of the Skype Division of Microsoft. "At the same time, we will be able to accelerate Skype's goal to reach 1 billion users daily."
Microsoft posted an infographic filled with big numbers related to Skype's current status. For instance, Skype logs 300 million minutes of video per day, during video calls now account for 42 percent of all Skype-to-Skype minutes.
