Mobile & VoIP pressure Russia's fixed line market; outsourcing poised
Mobile and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) subscriptions are pressing in on Russia's traditional fixed line market, reports Technology and Markets in a new study. Fixed line subscribers dropped to 45 million, or 0.6 percent year on year, during mobile subscriptions climbed 5.6 percent to 219.5 million and broadband subscriptions rose 25 percent to 16 million from 12.5 million in 2009. The way mobile apps have driven smartphone growth
Much like the way mobile apps have driven smartphone growth, ABI Innovation says that femtozone applications will drive the growth of femtocell services--a market it says will reach $2 billion in revenue by 2015. "Femtozone services will be bundled with femtocell subscriptions and will as well be available individually, increasing the perceived value of having a femtocell in the home. In the long run, mobile apps available from Apple or Google App stores may be designed to work via a femtocell," says practice director Aditya Kaul. Nevertheless, he warns that operators need to act fast, as WiFi and GPS applications could hinder growth. News release.
Global enterprise networks and data security will see remarkable growth in the then and there five years, ABI Innovation forecasts, and will exceed $10 billion by 2016. The market, which includes things like secure routers, unified threat management appliances, firewalls, virtual private networks, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network access control, grew 11 percent to $6 billion in 2010.
