Phone Systems: Toktumi Line2 for iPhone Review
I also tested the device using an iPhone; making calls over 3G works well assuming a strong signal. Line2 can make calls over a cellular network via Cellular Direct if no 3G/Wi-Fi is available. Cellular Direct mode routes calls through Toktumi Line2; the person on the other end will not notice any difference. Cellular Direct mode uses minutes, unlike 3G or Wi-Fi VoIP calls.
If a call is received on the iPhone's number while in the middle of a Line2 call, the Line2 call can be restored as long as the iPhone call is declined -- very slick.
Toktumi Line2 is a polished, well-delivered service for small businesses and consumers. It allows the iPhone to double as a second phone by giving it a unique number and enables the iPod touch/iPad to function as a VoIP phone. The service is $14.95/month for unlimited U.S./Canada calling and low-cost international; this is a fair price, though this service is more practical for iPhone users simply because they can access it anywhere; iPad/iPod touch users must have a Wi-Fi connection.
