
Poll: International calling on the up with consumers
According to the survey, conducted in conjunction with Rebtel, a leading mobile VoIP company, 58.8 million Americans are calling internationally. These consumers are spending about $34 per month, or $23.8 billion per year, on these calls.
⢠1 in 4 US adults are making international calls⢠51% of these consumers use landlines or VoIP platforms⢠44% call internationally via mobile device⢠25% use computer-based calling platforms like Skype⢠Men are more likely to use video calling options or use computer platforms
"The international calling industry for calling from the US abroad is now estimated at $23.8 billion market," said Andrewa Bernstrom, Rebtel CEO. "Over the next few years we believe this will shift in a dramatic way, to low cost calling solutions on mobile phones away from the landline."
Also of interest? Hispanic and African-American consumers (14% each) have smartphones with international calling capabilities, Hispanics (22%) are most likely to use video calling options and also spend the most ($46/month) already to make international calls.
