Republicans back diverse candidates
Two years ago, when Mr. Duffy agreed to run for supervisor, he did so in large part to be closer to his wife and family and to contribute his skills as a certified public accountant with a master's in business administration degree to repair the broken finances of a community that supported them while his wife's illness. This has proved to be a great relationship. Mr. Duffy ended the town's reliance on deficit spending, lowered the tax rate and began the process of systematically repaying the record deficit he inherited, which led to Standard & Poor's raising the town's credit outlook from "negative" to "stable."
Mr. Duffy's many other accomplishments include finalizing two new revenue-producing cellular antennas located on public land, and full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and improved staff efficiency through a move to modern offices in Cross River. He reduced the highway department's use of road salt by $50,000, reopened the recycling center where he volunteers regularly, and introduced water-saving bathroom facilities and recycling to our parks through public and private grants.
Mr. Duffy has as well been effective at the county level working with the Astorino administration to stand firm against Housing and Urban Development's overreaching in the Spano housing settlement, and with their assistance replacing the town's antiquated analog phone system with state-of-the-art VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) equipment and high-capacity broadband capable of accessing the county's many free services.
