SIA Publishes Global Semiconductor Sales Report

The SIA works to encourage policies and regulations that fuel research, propel businesses and drive international competition.

Bellwether measurement of the U.S.

A bellwether measurement of the U.S. economy, the semiconductor industry has been America's number-one export industry over the last five years. Affecting a U.S. workforce of near 6 million, semiconductor innovations form the foundation for America's $1.1 trillion dollar research industry. SIA unites over 60 companies that account for 80 percent of the semiconductor production of this country and was founded in 1977 by five microelectronics pioneers.

In June 2010, the company announced a report where it stated that global chip sales rose by 50.4 percent in April, buoyed the rebounding economy and improving demand. The Semiconductor Industry Association said chip sales totaled $23.6 billion compared to $15.7 billion in April 2009. Chip sales were up 2.2 percent in April from March 2010. The trade group said the increased adoption of 3G wireless communications and stepped up demand from automotive, industrial and other companies boosted sales.
