Skype Announces Free VoIP Calls Over Verizon 3G Network
Skype has announced that its Skype for Android users in the US will now be able to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls over the 3G network.Previously, the Skype for Android app was limited only to making calls over Wi-Fi. Skype had changed that by announcing a deal with Verizon, allowing Skype Android users on Verizon to make VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls on its network. After all, with the new Skype for Android version, US Android users will be able to make 3G VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls irrespective of the provider. Users have constantly been urging Skype to bring this functionality to the Android app however it continued to delay it without any particular reason.Maybe the delay was a part of its deal with Verizon or maybe there were technical difficulties involved. Whatever the case may be, Skype for Android users seem to have been rewarded for their patience."Skype for Android lets you talk for free with Skype-to-Skype calls, and send and receive instant messages no matter where you are. You can connect using 3G or a Wi-Fi connection, and it's free to download and easy to use - so if you haven't used it previously, give it a try today," Skype said in a blog post.
