Skype launches iPhone app with 3G video calling
Owners of an iPhone 4 could already use FaceTime to make video calls to an iPhone 4 or 4th generation iPod Touch over Wi-Fi, nevertheless Skype claims its new app offers much more flexibility.
It works over 3G and Wi-Fi connections, and allows iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch fourth generation users to make video calls to each other and to desktops.
Neil Stevens, general manager of Skype's consumer business, said: 'With video calling representing roughly 40 per cent of all Skype-to-Skype minutes for the first six months of 2010, our users have been eager to get Skype video calling on their mobile phones.'
It seems that 'wherever they are' will not apply to China, where the government has announced plans to exert greater control over the voice over internet protocol market.
The Ministry of Information
Although the Ministry of Information and Industry Research has not but detailed the new regulations at length, it is believed Skype will be banned and only government-owned telecoms companies will be able to provide VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services.
