Skype seeks NY IPO
Danish-Swedish VoIP firm Skype is believed to be planning an IPO on the New York based stock exchange Nasdaq, reportedly seeking to raise some $100 million through the listing.
Skype was established by Dane Janus Friis and Swede Niklas Zennstrom, who in 2005 sold the firm to US based internet auction company eBay for close to $25 billion. eBay failed to make as much on its investment as it had expected, and last year sold a controlling 70 percent stake for ï¿¡2 billion to a consortium, retaining the remaining 30 percent stake for itself.
The internet telephony company is today based in Luxembourg and has yet to officially announce the plans for an IPO, let alone where the shares would be sold or at what price.
