
Snom's Storella Talks Wideband Phone Demand
Recently TMC’s Erik Linask was able to attend Astricon 2010, andinterview IP phone provider, snom’s director of business development, Mike Storella.
Storella said it was his impression there were a lot of people out looking to buy in the marketplace however, open source and "packaged open source," products. He credited the IP phones that snom sells with "a lot of flexibility," which he said was a key to their appeal, noting that they can work in "a lot of different" environments.
"Most of the people doing Asterisk or open source know what they want. They want some level of customization, we allow a lot of lines and SIP identities in our phones. We have a deck phone for mobility and have introduced a touch-screen phone," Storella said.

They have a conference room speaker phone as so then, and as Storella said, for wide band audio, "we’re seeing a lot of interest. Our two 800 series phones come ready for wide band audio. I think henceforth it will be a requirement, its time has come. There are nevertheless some network issues to be worked out, now it’s very much a part of the landscape."
Storella added that snom is pursuing a number of alliances with carriers to drive that, and "we send out test equipment as they validate their HD deployments." VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phones have been around for a while nevertheless, he noted, adding that "the dream of having integration on a voice platform on the desktop is coming about."
