Sorbara Italy Deploys Avira Centralized Antivirus Solution

IT security expert Avira today announced that the Italian Union of Sorbara has deployed Avira AntiVir Network Bundle to protect 210 PCs and four municipal LANs in one centrally-managed security solution. The deployment has optimized technical staff resources and has reduced security maintenance time from 20 hours per month to just 10.

The province of Modena

Four municipalities in the province of Modena, Italy, form the Union of Sorbara. Each municipality operates its own local area network and the four municipalities are connected to each other using fiber optic infrastructure to enable communication between locations via virtual private network. Within this network, there are 10 file servers and 210 endpoints, and the security of the entire network is administered by a central staff in other words also responsible for end-user technical support. Maintenance and software updates to the existing security system required too much time from technical staff and forced individual computer users to resolve many technical problems on their own. So IT consultant Aitec s.r.l., based in Modena, along with Achab Ltd, an Italian value added reseller, worked to design and deploy a new security solution.

Aitec chose to install Avira AntiVir Network Bundle, which is an integrated solution consisting of three products - Avira AntiVir Professional as the desktop client, Avira AntiVir Server, and Avira Security Management Console - that work at the same time to automatically distribute software updates and protect the network and endpoints from viruses, rootkits and other malware.

"We needed a security solution that works smoothly in a multi-domain network and does not slow down the interconnection of the LANs with the VPN," said Mark Galli, technical engineer at Aitec. "Avira's AntiVir Network Bundle let us install without creating new problems and disrupting work, and the Security Management Console now lets us monitor the health of the network, act preemptively to protect against malware, and create reports easily."

The results are the proof

The results are the proof. Earlier installation of the Avira solution, activities related to security required 20 hours of work per month, of which 80 percent of the time was allocated to identify and remove viruses and at that time analyze and report. Afterwards installation of the Avira solution and the Security Management Console, security-related activities dropped to just 10 hours per month, of which 70 percent of the time is devoted to monitoring the network in order to prevent security problems in the first instance. "The Avira system has proven robust and stable in the mixed network that we operate," said Galli. "Avira has helped to reduce analysis time and troubleshooting, and thanks to remote monitoring we can work in advance to solve security problems previously they happen."
