Sorrento Networks Expands Presence in Eastern Europe
According to company officials, S4tech will resell Sorrento's entire product portfolio throughout Eastern Europe. The company offers broadband and Triple Play solutions, including network planning and design through delivery, installation, configuration and maintenance, with its biggest market share in Poland.
The world in terms of broadband deployment
"While traditionally Eastern Europe has trailed behind other regions of the world in terms of broadband deployment, the gap is closing and we're seeing more demand for high-speed data services," said Artur Pupin, founder of S4tech. "We've found that Sorrento's optical product offering is ideally suited for this geography and to address this much anticipated growth as the GigaMux portfolio simplifies the establishment of new networks and helps us cost-effectively increase capacity without disrupting existing services."
Under terms of the agreement, S4tech will resell Sorrento's complete product portfolio, including the GigaMux 1600/3200/6400/6440 and GigaEdge 232/820 families. Sorrento Networks' dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platforms enable S4tech to deliver high-speed services that require a reduced capital outlay and fewer management requirements than other optical networking products. This reduces costs and improves efficiencies for all Ethernet transport applications, such as IPTV, gaming and VoIP.
"WDM is the right technology to accelerate broadband deployment and increase bandwidth capacity in these countries," said Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. "This region is on the cusp of explosive demand for more next generation services and S4tech has been smart to align with industry-leading vendors that offer proven technologies to ensure they are well positioned to address and capture this growth opportunity. We anticipate the next two to three years will reveal significant broadband enhancements in this region."
A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux platform to transport and extend the traffic of SONET/SDH, layer 2/3 Ethernet and SAN simultaneously and in their native format.
