Thompson urged residents to watch out for unsolicited calls from contractors marketing blacktop, painting, lightning suppressor systems and other projects.

Thompson said all sales and marketing representatives doing business in Bureau County must first be registered with Bureau County Clerk and Recorder Kami Hieronymus. Residents shouldn’t accept any business proposal without first verifying their ability with professional references.

Thompson said if residents feel pressured to do business with anyone, they should call their family and friends for support, as so then as the sheriff or their local law enforcement representative. Just in case, they should make no payment until they are satisfied, and all of their questions have been answered.
