
Tekelec Extends Global Number Portability Market Share Leadership
Tekelec, the broadband data management company, increased its global market share -- as measured by enabled subscribers -- for real-time connection number portability solutions to 48%, up from 35% two years ago, according to innovation and consultancy firm Analysys Mason. The full findings are detailed in the Analysys Mason 2011 "Number Portability Innovation Note."
The gains primarily through emerging market successes
Tekelec achieved the gains primarily through emerging market successes, led by India. The company won nine of the 11 India mobile number portability bids it pursued: Bharti airtel Limited, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices Limited, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., Aircel, Uninor, MTS India, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. and STel Ltd. Should the contingency arise, Tekelec attained a 72% market share in the Caribbean and Latin America region, winning number portability clients in Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.
"Tekelec remains the lead provider of real-time connection number portability solutions, building on wins in developed European and North American markets to add dozens of clients across Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean," said Mark Main, senior analyst at Analysys Mason. "The company's broader subscriber data management portfolio as well provides the foundation for service portability for connected devices other than phones."
Tekelec's number portability solutions support signaling system 7, Electronic Numbering Mapping System, and Session Initiation Protocol architectures, handling voice, short message service, multimedia messaging service and pre-paid calls over LTE, IMS, GSM, CDMA, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), cable and fixed line networks. When combined with Tekelec's Subscriber Data Management products, the company provides at once-generation service portability that enables subscribers to transfer data services for any number of connected devices, just as tablets, netbooks and picture frames.
