The anodyne name
Forget the anodyne name and silly arrow thingy above the letter "t". Do not mention Tiger Woods. Or rather, applaud the fact that innovation consultancy and outsourcer Accenture has shot the lights out since going public a decade ago. Since 2001, its share price has quadrupled, outperforming the S&P 500 by more than 250 per cent. Its success was rewarded on Monday with the announcement that the company would enter that very index in early July.
Passive funds will have to buy Accenture. JPMorgan estimates new demand at around 70m shares or in broad outline ten days' volume. However how should active investors, maybe not knowing the company, look at it? The fundamentals of the business seem pretty attractive. The global IT upgrade cycle is strong and cost cutting, mobility and outsourcing remain corporate priorities. In the meantime, new areas of business just as cloud computing - a $50bn market, estimates Accenture - are opening up.
