The Tampa area Friday with two phones
Discount cellular provider MetroPCS launched 4G service in the Tampa area Friday with two phones, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge for $299, afterwards a $100 mail-in rebate, and a Samsung Craft for $199 afterwards $150 in rebates.
Depending on coverage, "4G" service can transmit data approximately the same speed as a home Wi-Fi connection with broadband Internet. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint have already launched 4G service in Tampa.
Verizon Communications Inc. said it has completed a $1.1 billion tender offer for Miami-based Terremark Worldwide Inc., a provider of "cloud computing" services.
Verizon said it purchased 59.8 million Terremark shares for $19 apiece in cash pursuant to this agreement the tender offer, which expired Thursday. That gives the phone company control of nearly 71 percent of Terremark's common shares on a fully diluted basis.
