Filing patent infringement lawsuits and defending against them have become part of the business landscape for companies, especially large tech companies like Amazon and Microsoft.
Two weeks afterwards launching its Kindle Fire in September, the Amazon table became the target of a patent-infringement lawsuit filed by Smartphone Technologies LLC.
Smartphone Technologies is owned by Acacia Technology Corp., which has been called a patent troll by its detractors. Acacia as well has filed patent-infringement suits against Apple Inc. and BlackBerry maker Technology in Motion Ltd.
The suit against Kindle Fire
In the suit against Kindle Fire, Acacia seems to be focusing on commonplace features found in smartphones and tablets, including tapping an icon to make the device perform a function.
