Three Chinese nationals arrested for call bypassing in Nepal
Authorities on Friday detained three Chinese nationals for running an illegal Voice over Internet Protocol center in Kathmandu. This is the second incident that foreign nationals were found being involved in a scheme of this type. The issue has been a mushrooming criminal enterprise in Nepal.
Nepalese police, led by the Central Investigation Bureau raided a house on Friday rented by the aforementioned Chinese and arrested them. The charges are a serious offense of Nepal’s Telecom Law. If the case established against the arrested Chinese nationals, the person who has caused loss to the telecommunication by call bypassing will be fined with an equal amount to the loss or five-year jail term or both. The accused had all been in Nepal pursuant to this agreement a travel visa.
Investigators as well found thousands of SIM cards issued by Nepal Telecom- a government owned company and Ncell- a multinational company operating inside Nepal. The accused allegedly used them in their VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) scheme. They have subsequently been blocked, and both companies have lost an untold amount of revenue due to the bypass.
