To Build The Next Great Company
Gaurav Dhillon knows something about a teacher's influence: he was raised by two university professors. Afterwards immigrating to the United States for graduate school, he went to work for a large innovation firm and shortly, with a $75,000 grant, started a venture in his garage. He grew Informatica into a openly-traded company, now valued at $5 billion, and established himself as a thought leader in the complex industry of enterprise data integration.
Dhillon participated in various projects afterwards Informatica, nevertheless a conversation with Marc Andreessen reignited his interest in the industry. They both believed that the future of business software rested on internet-style, browser-based computing. At that time, many companies used software as a service, yet cloud computing had but to enter into public consciousness. Andreessen's articulation of the "Business Internet" crystallized Dhillon's conviction about the future, and SnapLogic was born.
Dhillon and his team want to do to enterprise software what Apple did to the mobile phone industry. Third party developers can design programs that "snap" different applications at the same time, and other end-users can purchase these snaps in the SnapStore or — alternatively — build proprietary connections to their internal systems to improve their data processing capabilities. SnapLogic makes it easy to connect applications, and there are already 108 snaps available for purchase.

I'm the Director of Editorial Business Operations at Forbes. It's like the potpourri category on Jeopardy: a little bit of everything. My specialty is that I'm a generalist. Previously Forbes I was at True/Slant, the online news startup Forbes acquired in June 2010. I started my career as a management consultant at Bain & Company and have considerable experience with political campaigns, including co-founding and advising a political consulting firm in Washington D.C. I'm interested in exploring the characteristics of individuals and organizations that are changing the world. Any topics you'd like to hear about? Follow me on Twitter @drewhansen26.
