Two Google Voice Apps Released; Google Still in Limbo
Two apps that connect iPhones to the Google Voice service have been added to the Apple App Store, although some users reported issues with at least one of them. Google, meanwhile, still hasn't released a native Google Voice app for the iPhone that has been approved.
VOIP application
Neither app is a VOIP application, meaning that it itself can not make calls. Both apps communicate with Google Voice, which only works within the U.S.
In January, Google released "Google Voice for the iPhone," an HTML5 Web app that does the job, if not as well as the native Android version of Google Voice. However, A native Google Voice app for the iPhone has been submitted, and never approved.
"It's not surprising that we're big fans of Google Voice! That said, we currently offer Google Voice mobile apps for Blackberry and Android, and we offer an HTML5 web app for the iPhone," Google said in a statement Monday. "But we have nothing further to announce right now."
