Verizon bringing FiOS TV to Schenectady
So Verizon is expanding its FiOS TV offerings in the nearly future to Schenectady and Guilderland. Read the full story in the Times Union. My first thought: Hallelujah! Those two locations are just a stone’s throw from my home, so I can only hope that I’m then and there. As Time Warner Cable‘s rates continue to go up, I look forward to some competition for television. My bill is so high that I’m currently mulling dropping down to basic cable and picking up Hulu Plus. I rarely watch TV when it airs, so a day or two delay shouldn’t bother me. It doesn’t hurt that TV networks send me screeners for their new shows, either. Has anybody tried surviving without expanded cable? I think I’d get most everything I need from Hulu Plus, even though my wife’s addiction to Bravo’s “Real Housewives” shows could be a stumbling block.
I feel like I am the only one here who is going to say I am happy with TW. We have a bundled package of phone, internet, and digital cable with dvr. No premium packages, movie or specialty channels. 2 years ago we signed up for “locked in pricing”, it is a 2 year contract which just expired and we signed a new 2 year contract. With the new price increases this same service would cost $180 however with the locked in price we are paying $141. One of the reasons we left Verizon was I need to call Canada periodically, with Verizon I had to pay a monthly fee to get a reduced per minute rate, with TW Canada is included in the basic package. No per minute rate or additional monthly fee. As well a btw about Netflix, when streaming we have constant buffering issues that interupt the video, a real pain.
People arent necessarily complaining about TW’s products, just their pricing. At $141 you are paying way too much. They say you are saving so much because it should cost $180, however that is just a marketing technique. You can ditch their home phone and get vonage and as well call Canada for free. There are plenty of other options for calling Canada. Paying $141 per month isnt one I would choose.
