Verizon NJ president rebuts AARP column
I am writing in response to Sy Larson's recent editorial which inaccurately describes what will happen to phone service if the New Jersey Senate votes to approve S2664, the "Market Competition and Consumer Choice Act." I'd like to set the record straight to all of Verizon's clients in New Jersey.
We understand that competition, not regulation, is what keeps prices low and services in line with customer expectations. If we fail to offer the products and services New Jersey consumers want at a fair price, we stand to lose their business. From a business perspective, a move of that sort would not be in our best interest, especially since we continue to lose market share to alternate providers just as wireless, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and cable companies.
Verizon is committed to New Jersey and firmly believes this bill is in the best interest of consumers, the business community and the state's economy. The Senate should support this bill when it comes time for a vote.
